The Cheat

The Cheat

I close my eyes,

I still feel you beside me.

A distant memory latches on,

As time heals the pain of losing you for eternity.

I never knew that I was the other woman.

And probably I was never meant to.

But your urge to be so close to me from a place so far,

Led your wife to unveil what you did not want her to.

Was it lust or love?

Against her or for me?

I guess neither she nor I will ever know.

I pour my heart onto this page,

As tears race down my face,

Thinking of how I unwittingly wrecked a home.

But I must not blame myself deep down,

For it was you who downloaded the dating app.

You – a married man with children,

A cheating man who thinks the world falls at your lap.

You may not acknowledge the extent of your actions today.

But unannounced it will hit you like a train one day.

Let’s see if your children can even bear to look in your eyes,

As your ‘wife’ and I can’t help but look away.

How could I not know you had a family?

A question which haunts me to this day.

What happens in the mind of a cheat.

What causes their heart to lead astray?

I close my eyes,

I still feel you beside me.

A distant memory latches on,

As time heals the pain of losing you for eternity.

It’s bittersweet that from my life you’re now gone.

*To all the cheaters, I hope you change. For your own sake.
