Poem – Will I Ever Find Love?

I search for you in every corner of my mind’s eye,

Swirling corridors, crooked crevices,

And still, I cannot find you.

A figure of my imagination,

I imagine growing old together,

Making plans together,

Holding hands together.

Yet time slips like sand through my fingers.

My face ages each year, my hair…a little greyer.

Will you still love me when I’m not young and beautiful?

Will you find me before I’m old and frailer?

I pity those who cannot see the wood for the trees.

You act like you’re toying with a pebble,

When in fact you throw diamonds into the rubble.

You want all the plants in the forest,

Yet you fail to see the most beautiful of flowers before you.

You snare yourself in poison ivy,

With greed and lust you envy,

Other men who never settle.

Quantity over quality,

Never wins anyone medals.

Is love such a scarce commodity?

With no guarantees, no promises?

Will I walk this life alone?

Is it all just happenstance?

Who knows?

Only time will tell.

And can it please go a little slower.

Or at least can I have a hand beneath my own,

To catch the sand that pours over?
